Technology Blog 2: Building Your Connected Learning Community

This chapter discusses how networking and making connections can affect a person’s life and improve their knowledge of themselves and their field. Building a community, allows for people to express themselves to one another and gain information from each other. The chapter explains how to start building a network, using online resources through Twitter. By looking into others’ backgrounds and profiles, you can find people to follow and connect with. Blogs are another way to form networks, writing about your own opinions while others can comment and relate to you.

By networking, communities form with a purpose and intention. Each member can participate in a community differently. The chapter explains they can link, lurk, learn, or lead. It takes time for communities to develop and grow, a community leader becomes important for this to occur. Hearing other people’s voices and stories is useful to build onto the network. The reading stresses the benefits of building trust through profile sharing and communication. Technology allows for collaboration among people who want to share their experiences.

As someone who has never used Twitter before, I am considering looking into using it soon or in my future as a physical therapist. It would be helpful in building a community to learn from others and to give information about myself to others too. I think I can find ways to express myself and my experiences for others to see and relate to. I would love to learn more from others within my field of study, finding ways I can make improvements to my own work life.

  1. Hi Riley, I enjoyed reading your post, and it's clear that we took away similar insights from this chapter. Networking is crucial in order to build a community within a practice, and I feel that no matter the field of work someone is going into, it would benefit all. Even though you are pursuing a career in the health sciences and I'm entering the field of psychology, gaining knowledge through networking with like-minded individuals would enable us to become more proficient in the work we are interested in.

  2. Hi Riley,
Great Blog! Networking is very important so we can meet new people and build relationships. This is important because many people share the same ideas as us but can have different ways on how they implement them. This picks our brains to start thinking out the box. I think its very important to look at someone profile before following. Now a days many people just follow to follow or accept anyone to get a higher following.
