Technology Blog #4 Learning to Learn
This chapter uses the common career of a teacher to relate to any profession one may have or is working towards. The reading suggests that as a professional in your career, you should allow yourself to rethink how you are approaching your job. We should use our learning skills to figure out how we can apply new knowledge to our careers. Everyone views learning in their own personal ways. The chapter provides examples of these ideas, some being that learning is “increase of knowledge”, “personal”, and “ongoing”. Each of these examples in the reading are useful for each person's individual understanding of how they learn and why it is important for them.
The chapter continues to stress the value of constructing knowledge for, in, and of practice. Knowledge for practice consists of using resources to take in and acquire information, applying it to your career. Knowledge in practice comes from testing things out and gained from working through your career. Knowledge for practice happens after applying learned knowledge to see what works best for you and your surroundings. This then allows you to make improvements and adjustments. By sharing experiences with others, people are able to build each other up and collaborate effectively.
I can use this information I have found from this chapter towards my future as a physical therapist to rethink how I approach caring for patients and providing support to them. I should continue to learn and gain new knowledge to stay on track with improving my practice. In order for me to develop a strong understanding of myself as a physical therapist, trying new things and techniques will allow me to find what works best for me and my patients. It is always beneficial to collaborate with others in my professional career to gain new information that will encourage my own personal growth in physical therapy.
